I haven't heard a lick of this on the news but there was a big protest in Athens directed towards the United States and our backwards foreign policy. Colin Powell was supposed to be part of the closing ceremonies in Athens but, due to the protests, he reconsidered. The White House is saying that the trip was cancelled because there are situations in Iraq and Sudan that require the Secretary's attention, but most know it's because of the virulent protests.
What's ironic is that the President should be focusing on Iraq, Sudan and Afghanistan instead of focusing solely on his reelection smear campaign. Bush is like the CEO of a Company who doesn't want to hear anything about what's going on, he just wants to play golf, entertain, count the cash and take over as many companies as possible. He's Michael Douglas in Wall Street, only working a quarter of the time from a place with no electricity or cell phones. He's the guy everyone hates. He's been on more vacation in four years than most of us will get in a lifetime. He's been away for over 40% of his time in office (another record) and the time he has spent there has been ineffective.
He comes to New York as Nero returing to ashen Rome when he'd rather be Derek Jeter stolling down the Canyon of Heroes.
In other Olympic News, the primadonna's known as the "Bad Dream Team" are out of Gold Medal contention after losing to Argentina by 8 points. This is the best thing that's happened to basketball in the United States in recent memory... but unfortunately the lessons learned by this won't sink in for all the floppers in the league. In real basketball, to win you need to hit jumpers, play hard and you can't flop on every shot like you were slapped with a broom stick. Vlade Divac and Reggie Miller are to blame for this, and they should be publicly hanged for ruining a formerly exciting sport.
HOWEVER, the biggest story of these Olympics (besides the lack of terrorism, up until now) is the ass on this Brazilian chich, Sandra Pires. Aye dios mio!
