Another Hopeful Sign
In England, Tony Blair's Labour Party took a beating last night at the polls.
Labour fell to third in the share of the vote with 26%, lost more than 460 councillors and relinquished control of seven councils, including Newcastle upon Tyne, Trafford, Doncaster and for the first time in 25 years the party's showpiece council of Leeds.
Labour has never previously lost Doncaster, and Newcastle was a stronghold for 30 years. Even in Barnsley, Labour only clung on by one seat.
A BBC survey of selected wards suggested the result equated to a 38% share of the popular vote for the Conservatives, followed by the Liberal Democrats on 29% with Labour trailing in third place on 26%. Other surveys put the Tories even higher.
Hopefully this is another sign (like Spain) that the people aren't going to stand for being lied to, dragged in to war, and associated with administrations that go into war for favors, money and false pretenses all in the name of God.
In England there was a significant increase in voter turnout. The past several elections in the states had apathetic turnouts at best. You can bet that we will see a record number of voters in Novmember.
In other news (but the same article), Blair's Labour Party cohorts are urging him to delay the 2006 General Election! They are citing that the country (and potential voters) need time to heal the wounds of a failed war strategy and embarassing internation relations. Bush will try the same thing once the U.S. gets attacked again.
They are prepping the country to accept another terrorist attack by saying that there will be one this summer, but they can't say where, what it will be, when it will be, or how they are acting to prevent it. They would probably prefer that it happen.
