I downloaded the video of the beheading of that poor Berg fellow. I was ready for the gore and the screams that I heard about. I wasn't made physically sick by watching the video. After all, I had never seen a real live beheading. And to be honest... I am a much better person now for having done so. Seriously. But yeah, that video was a little disturbing... how the "terrorists" were all screaming "God is great" in Arabic during the beginning of the act, then they paused when it started getting pretty gruesome, like they were in awe, disgusted, amazed they actually accomplished (hey, accomplished doesn't always imply a job well done) something, or just done with the whole novelty of dismemberment and torture. It was a pretty weird thing seeing someones newly shorn cabeza held up in front of a camera. It was a clean cut and it looked like the butcher had done it before and what would make me think otherwise.
Regardless... today there was an "editorial" in the Post regarding war and retaliation, etc. The remarks made there were as illogical as their reasons for committing this act. The idea that our "moral superiority" (and Bush's spiritual and ideological superiority) is reason enough for the "eye for an eye" (or head for a thousand heads) mentality is more laughable than it is logical. This reasoning does not imply a lack of patriotism. This reasoning does not imply being "soft on defense" or a bleeding heart liberal. The reasoning that is resonated in The Post and (from what I believe) Middle America is idiocy perpetuated, and I am amazed by it.
