Tepid Sense of an Intrepid Destiny

Further proof that we are now living in Political Bizarro World:

Republican election strategy is to accuse their opponents of being the very thing they are

Republicans are voting for massive "tax cuts" despite the fact that we are racking up more debt than any other period ever in the history of the United States and questioning whether John McCain is a Republican for disagreeing with this idiom and calling them on it

Bush, who didn't even show up for guard duty, and Cheney, who got at least 5 deferments, are accusing Kerry of being weak on defense and not capable of being a leader in war time

Republican staff members of the US Senate Judiciary Commitee infiltrated opposition computer files for a year, monitoring secret strategy memos and periodically passing on copies to the media

Insisting that Iran and North Korea allow in weapons inspectors, or to completely halt all operations that involve nuclear materials, yet:
"A US department of energy panel of experts which provided independent oversight of the development of the US nuclear arsenal has been quietly disbanded by the Bush administration, it emerged yesterday."

and

Bush stating that we are going to war with Iraq because they were pursuing nuclear weapons yet we are pursuing new nuclear weapons of our own

It was only coincidence that the flag that was flying at the Pentagon on 9/11 was the same flag that draped over the fact on the Saddam Hussein statue that fell on live TV

there's more, but everything that I have linked to already expired... remind me to use better sites for news like Guardian.

In other news, Mike linked a story on Yahoo! about Israeli raids in Gaza and the West Bank. One line in the story made me laugh out loud (which at work on a quiet day was somewhat awkward). However, I completely disagree with Mike to the point where I am about to throw something at him (he'll never see it coming! unless he looks to his right).

Here is the hilarity:

The army, which has demolished dozens of Rafah homes during the raid, denied flattening the zoo as Palestinian boys were seen chasing a bewildered-looking ostrich through the streets.
